State, UAW start new contract talks: Budget based on $145M in concessions
The state of Michigan and one of its major employee unions started a new round of contract negotiations Tuesday as Gov. Rick Snyder's administration continues to seek money-saving concessions from state workers for the upcoming fiscal year.
Michigan is a UNION STATE - The UAW stood side by side in Lansing with teachers. They gave voice to the injustices placed upon teachers.

DPS employees must shoulder $81 million in wage cuts...

All 10,000 workers in the district - union and nonunion - will see a 10% cut in their paychecks on August 23 and will begin to pay 20% of health care benefits as of September 1, 2011.
Other cuts announced today will impact the teachers union's step increases, bonuses, sick leave payouts and other measures. The district's plan will:
* suspend payments for any sick days remaining unused at the time of an employee's retirement
* suspend implementation and payment of any annual increments
* suspend payments for over sized classes to teachers in kindergarten through Grade 12
*suspend payment of any longevity bonus
* suspend payment for any preparation periods lost by the teachers
* suspend payments of any certification bonuses
*suspend any premium payments for special education personnel and suspend payments of any assault pay

The next frontal attack on teachers...

It appears that it is not enough to strip teachers of their rights; there is an attempt to belittle their education and degrees. IT IS AN ATTEMPT TO UNDERMINE THE PROFESSION...
Why are teachers such a threat? Could it be that they question, they think critically, and they change the world. It appears it would be much easier to place untrained professionals in the classroom and run roughshod over them.
