Governor Rick Snyder and the Michigan Legislature have embarked on a program to reduce public school spending, limit school employee rights and transfer business' share of paying for public education to individual tax payers. Their agenda includes:

- Emergency managers that strip rights away from workers and citizens

- Outsource teaching services to the lowest bidder (SB618)
- Eliminate the cap on charter schools, which would reduce funding to local schools (SB 618)
- Expand cyber schools and allow enrollment to include students not previously enrolled in public school (SB 619)
- Allow 51 percent of parents in a public school to petition the school board to convert their neighborhood school to a charter school (SB 621)
- Implement vouchers/parochial by expanding dual enrollment to let private school students use state aid for college classes (SB 623)
- Mandate all school districts participate in schools of choice (SB 624)
- Force all future school employees into a defined contribution plan instead of the MPSERS defined benefit plan (SB 593)
