Highlights of April 26th Negotiations

1. Harper Creek Board proposed a Hard Cap
2. HCEA offered a proposal that included the following:
a) Insurance proposal of 80/20 with MESSA (Note, this year MESSA had a 6.9% decrease whereas Priority Health went up 25%)
b) A 5% increase at each step. The HCEA Team determined that the amount of money the district saved by having teachers pay 20% of their insurance: $501,586.94. A 5% raise will increase the district's salary cost $457,397.80. This is less than the amount of money the district will save over the course of the next year. The HCEA wants total compensation. The Harper Creek Board should not make money on its teachers' backs.
c) The HCEA presented a calendar with fewer dates. The HCEA noted that total compensation could be done through days though that is not HCEA's preference. It is up to the Harper Creek Board to determine the means by which it intends to provide total compensation.
d) Finally, the HCEA provided minor language proposals.
The next negotiation meeting is scheduled for May 10th.
